πŸŽ₯ 6 Flipgrid alternatives for student video

Microsoft Flip is ending its web/mobile versions

😒 Saying goodbye to Flipgrid / Microsoft Flip

This summer, the edtech world got some sad (but somewhat expected) news.

Microsoft was ending the web/mobile versions of Flip (formerly Flipgrid), its fantastic video recording/sharing/discussing platform.

The Flip camera is being moved inside Microsoft Teams. But ending the web/mobile version takes it out of the hands of tons of students and teachers who have depended on it for the last 12 years.

If this is news to you, I’m about to break some more news: Flip has already entered view-only mode, so you can’t record new videos with it anymore. Users have until Sept. 30 to save any Flip videos they don’t want to lose.

This was tough news for me. I used Flipgrid from almost the beginning. The Flipgrid team are friends, and several of them lost their jobs with Microsoft. I’m still sad and, honestly, a little bitter about it.

Many of us are trying to move on. It begs the question: What do we use now?

Our new post β€” 6 Microsoft Flip alternatives to try this year β€” gives you some places to start. In our πŸ’‘ Big Idea below, we'll summarize all six to help you start to move on.

πŸ–₯ vivi: Student screen sharing made simple

What apps do your students use in class β€” Google Slides, PowerPoint, FigJam, Book Creator … others?

With vivi (vivi.io), no matter what the app, students can quickly share their screen so the whole class can see.

And it’s FREE.

Students join your class with vivi. Then, using your computer or even your cell phone, you can mirror students’ screens to the big screen in front of the room.

Vivi also has a student whiteboard feature that can be mirrored for everyone to see.

Did I mention it’s FREE?
