🖐 The "top 5 highlights" student challenge
Plus: I'm going to be a guest on Dr. Phil!
💭 Students: How far have we come this year?
Being back in the classroom this semester, I’ve experienced things again that I haven’t since I last taught eight years ago.
Grading. Relationship building. Monitoring the halls.
Another one: I had to get on a class yesterday for being too chatty and off-topic. That’s something I haven’t dealt with in a long, long time.
Now, I’m getting ready to go through yet another unique experience: the end of the school year.
It’s different in so many ways. Events and school assemblies. Projects. Things we just don’t do in the same way in the classroom in the middle of the year.
It’s also a time for reflection. We help students look back on their progress.
Today, we’re highlighting a cool “top 5 highlights” creative challenge by Adobe — one that can be used in lots of ways in a variety of classes.
It uses Adobe Express (which is free for teachers and students!) and utilizes some of its new AI features.
Bonus: It includes a template and a tutorial video to show students what they need to do. All you need to do is assign it!

📺 I’m going to be on Dr. Phil Primetime!
Imagine my surprise when an email from the producer of the Dr. Phil Primetime show landed in my inbox!
They’re doing a show on how AI is impacting jobs — and they want to highlight teaching and how it’s being used in learning. I’ll be joined by Jean Darnell, a school librarian who I’ve interviewed for Ditch That Textbook about AI bias.
I’ll fly to Ft. Worth, Texas, on Sunday to tape a segment in their studio on Monday. I’m supposed to arrive at 6:30am and go through wardrobe and makeup (!!) before recording a segment with Dr. Phil.
The episode doesn’t air until June or July, but it should be quite an experience! I’ve never done anything like this. I’m excited — and nervous!
I’ll share about it next week when I get back.

10 ways to turn memories into masterpieces with Adobe Express’s NEW Creative Challenge!
As the school year winds down, we can’t help but reflect on where we have been and what we’ve learned.
The newest Adobe creative challenge gives your students a powerful voice in showcasing their learning. It combines two of my favorite things — Adobe Express and AI — to help teachers and students create engaging images that highlight top five moments!
The challenge includes a template and a tutorial video. So all you need to do is share it with your students and watch the creativity unleash!
Looking for some ideas for ways to use this challenge? Here are 10 ways to use the new Adobe Express challenge with your students:
🤔 Reflection on Learning: Have students create an image that showcases the top five things they’ve learned this school year, using the generative AI fill feature.
📸 Classroom Highlights: Students can use the challenge to generate images of their favorite classroom moments, projects, or events. Open house display? Done ✅
📈 Personal Growth: Encourage students to reflect on their personal growth and achievements, creating a visual representation of their top five milestones.
👥 Collaborative Collage: Combine individual students’ images into a collaborative class collage that captures the essence of the year. The discussions that students will have deciding on their top 5 will create their own memories!
🥰 Educator Appreciation: Students can create images listing the top five ways their educators have made a positive impact on them this year. This one is perfect for teacher appreciation week next week!
🔬 Subject Integration: Integrate the challenge into specific subjects, like science or history, by having students create images related to the top five concepts they’ve explored. Tip: Have each finger on the image represent a different subject area highlighting their favorite activity from that subject.
✏️ Creative Writing Prompts: Use the generated images as prompts for creative writing assignments, where students elaborate on the stories behind their top five lists. Tip: Have students write about each of their lists and combine them into a book with the top 5 images as the cover.
🗣️ Peer Learning: Have students share and explain their images with classmates, fostering peer learning and discussion about shared experiences. Tip: Have students share their top 5 with the classmates below as a little sneak peek into what they can look forward to the next year.
📆 End-of-Year Presentation: Students can incorporate their generated images into an end-of-year presentation, reflecting on their journey through the school year.
💻 Digital Portfolios: Encourage students to include their generative AI images in their digital portfolios as a creative summary of their year. Tip: Add the image as the header for a Wakelet collection and have your students showcase their work inside the collection.
