๐Ÿฅด So many AI tools so fast โ€ฆ

Ever since ChatGPT was released about a year and a half ago, tools using AI have been growing quickly and furiously.

It makes sense. Thereโ€™s a TON of money being poured into tech companies and AI right now. Innovation seems to follow the money.

Before the AI boom, it was already hard to keep up with all of the edtech apps.

Now itโ€™s even tougher!

In todayโ€™s big idea, Iโ€™ll share five AI tools Iโ€™ve found recently that I think have a lot of potential.

PS: Itโ€™s eclipse day! My school is in the path of totality, so weโ€™re on an elearning day (aka โ€œdo assignments from homeโ€). My wife (who teaches there) and kids (who attend there) and I live just outside of totality (99.6%, which from what I hear is not the same as 100%).

Weโ€™re going to drive to our church (20 minutes south and 100% totality) to watch the total eclipse this afternoon. Iโ€™ll share photos tomorrow!

Together with bulb, Wakelet is able to offer even more value to schools and districts looking to maximize student outcomes inside and outside the classroom.

๐Ÿ›  5 new AI tools for the classroom

Looking to be more efficient? Save time? Get new creative ideas? Or just mix things up in the classroom?

Weโ€™re updating our post โ€” 30 AI tools for the classroom โ€” with more apps and sites. Check out the post for all of them!

Here are five AI tools Iโ€™ve come across recently that have my attention โ€ฆ

1. Brisk Teaching (briskteaching.com)

Brisk is a Chrome extension. Install it in your Google Chrome browser and youโ€™ll start to see the Brisk icon in Google tools like Docs, Slides, and Google Classroom. Use it to provide student feedback, change reading level, and more. Itโ€™s also packed with dozens of teacher tools to take workload off your shoulders.

2. Claude (claude.ai)

Claude is an AI chatbot (like ChatGPT and Google Gemini). Itโ€™s been around for a while, but recently, it unveiled a new model that makes it much more powerful. Itโ€™s now one of the top AI assistants out there. It runs on Constitutional AI, which creates a set of principles it abides by.

3. Ideogram (ideogram.ai)

There are LOTS of AI image generators out there. Ideogram is quickly becoming one of my favorites. The images it generates are fantastic. But it has a secret superpower โ€” magic prompt. It takes the description you write of the image you want (the prompt) and improves it using AI. It improves the final image drastically.

4. Antimatter Sorcerer (antimatter.systems)

Antimatter has added to its fun meme and text conversation tools for the classroom. Sorcerer is an AI chatbot that scores student understanding of a topic on a 0-100 scale. As the student responds, the sorcerer adds points to the scale to show the studentโ€™s growing understanding.

5. TeachAid (teachaid.ca)

TeachAid is a new member of the education AI tools community. Itโ€™s a one-stop shop where you can plan lessons, create assessments, as well as make interactive presentations and learning activities. Its interactive presentations are really cool, rivaling Kahoot-style formative assessment sites.

Weโ€™ll be adding more tools shortly to our AI tools blog post โ€” and weโ€™ll share them with you here!

๐ŸŽฏ Quick Teaching Strategy

๐Ÿ–๏ธ Simple self assessment

This quick teaching strategy comes from Teacher Phoenix Moony and shared via @Teacher2Teacher on Twitter/X.

Pheonix says they leave highlighters next to the turn-in bin. Students will highlight their name with they turn in assignments with a specific color.

  • ๐ŸŸข Green highlighter if they feel they did well and are confident in their work.

  • ๐ŸŸก Yellow highlighter if the student thinks they mostly understood it.

  • ๐ŸŸ  Orange highlighter if they struggled.

Phoenix says itโ€™s a self assessment AND there are fewer papers missing names!

๐Ÿ˜„ Smile of the day

Only 27? On a good day, I do waaaaaaay better than that โ€ฆ

๐Ÿ‘‹ How we can help

There are even more ways I can support you in the important work you do in education:

  1. Read one of my six books about meaningful teaching with tech.

  2. Take one of our online courses about practical and popular topics in education.

  3. Bring me to your school, district or event to speak. I love working with educators!
