📺 Ditch Summit: Spark your creativity, passion, and inspiration

Sessions by Dave Burgess, Austin Kleon, and more!

The Ditch Summit rolls on — with 13 days left to go!

It seems like there are three types of people who participate in the Ditch Summit …

  • End-of-semester watchers: They have time to watch sessions while they’re grading tests and projects … while they’re still in school.

  • On-winter-break watchers: There’s no school! So they’re watching because they finally have time to themselves.

  • Back-to-school watchers: School is still slowly getting started, so there’s some time and space to watch as everything ramps back up.

We are firmly in the “on winter break” phase of the summit! All videos are available and you have time on your hands.

So … let’s get back into it!

For the final two weeks of the summit, I’ll recommend sessions from previous summits you might like to watch.

Today, we’ll look at one of our Category Collections — curated lists of videos in popular strands. Today, we’ll dive into the Creativity, Passion, and Inspiration category.

🔎 SPOTLIGHT SPONSOR 🔎

🎨 4 creative, hands-on FigJam activities for class tomorrow

What can your students do with FigJam, the free collaborative whiteboard app with tons of creative tools and features?

In this Spotlight Sponsor Session — Fun, Collaborative, Visual Learning That Works with FigJam” — Figma’s David Curran shared these four ideas:

1st grade: Make math visual

Don’t just answer math subtraction questions. Color in the circles and then cross circles out. Use the voice memo tool to let students explain how they solve problems. Then have some fun coloring in math monsters!

5th grade: Draw and label plants

Students can use the pencil tool and highlighter tools to draw parts of a plant. Then they can drag in custom labels to identify the different parts.

7th grade: Multimedia timeline

Organize new content by year. Color code the different time periods with flow chart blocks. Add images, links, and other multimedia.

11th grade example: Read around a poem

Students can work together in groups to analyze a piece of writing. They can highlight different literary devices and use sticky notes to answer questions or discuss ideas together.

🎉 Loving these ideas? Check out the FigJam session, where you can make a copy of the FigJam file David used, download the notes, and get a certificate of completion for PD credit.
