📺 Ditch Summit Day 8: Student AI Panel + St. Jude

New sessions with Students for Innovation and St. Jude

It’s Day 8 of the Ditch Summit! (View all previous summit emails here.)

So … we finally made it. As of today, all new Ditch Summit sessions are available!

You can choose from 8 new featured speaker sessions, 8 new spotlight sponsor sessions, and nearly 100 previous Ditch Summit sessions.

What happens next? Well, it’s time to take a break from Ditch Summit emails. (You’ve been receiving them every day for eight days! And, to be honest, I need a break from writing them!)

  • Starting Friday, I’ll email you every few days with suggestions of videos to watch and summit reminders.

  • The summit ends on Fri., Jan. 10, when all summit resources (videos, certificates, etc.) will become unavailable.

♻️ Day 7 recap

In his session, Jorge Valenzuela encouraged us to be “transformational leaders” when coaching fellow educators. He gave a wide range of advice, including …

  • the importance of visiting classrooms

  • including project-based learning and life skills in instruction

  • guiding difficult conversations and communicating clearly

Yesterday’s new MagicSchool session discussed the importance of developing AI literacy in students AND teachers — and how AI literacies can be honed using MagicSchool with teacher tools and MagicStudent.

📺 FEATURED SPEAKER 📺

The AI Generation: Student Perspectives on AI with Students for Innovation

Today’s students will face a world — and a workforce — where artificial intelligence (AI) will be more and more commonplace.

Educators are making decisions to prepare them for this future … but what about the students? What do they think? How do they feel about all of this?

If you haven’t asked students about their thoughts on AI, you should definitely watch this student AI panel discussion.

In it, we discuss how students feel about AI. We discuss what they think about working with it in school — and entering a workforce where it’s a factor.

These students even give advice about AI in education to anyone who will listen.

You won’t want to miss this AI student panel!

🔎 SPOTLIGHT SPONSOR 🔎

Learning While Supporting a Worthy Cause with St. Jude

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is dedicated to treating kids with cancer and other life-threatening diseases.

Families never receive a bill for treatment, travel, housing or food — so they can focus on helping their child live.

When St. Jude opened in 1962, childhood cancer was considered incurable. Since then, St. Jude has helped push the overall survival rate from 20% to more than 80% within the U.S., and we won't stop until no child dies from cancer.

You and your students can help support these efforts! (Psst … you can win prizes, too …)

Here’s how:

  1. Watch videos to learn about St. Jude, how it works, and what you can do. (You can choose videos from the choice board here.)

  2. Request more information about hosting a Math-A-Thon fundraiser at your school to raise money for St. Jude.

Educators host Math-A-Thon fundraisers in the spring to help prepare students for state testing — and to support a worthy cause at the same time.

🎁 BONUS: If you use the “request more information” link above, you can win prizes from St. Jude!

  • Register to host a Math-A-Thon before Jan. 10 to enter to win a Stanley-style St. Jude tumbler.

  • Complete the Math-A-Thon by March 31 to win a FREE copy of my book, AI for Educators!

(Note: This session is a little different. Instead of watching one video, you’ll be able to choose from a variety of shorter videos. To get the certificate of completion, watch at least 30 minutes of videos.)

Watch any Ditch Summit session from previous years on the Ditch Summit Video Library page any time.
