📺 Ditch Summit Day 7: Coaching educators + MagicSchool
New sessions with Jorge Valenzuela and Jeni + Andrew from MagicSchool
It’s Day 7 of the Ditch Summit! (View all previous summit emails here.)
At this point in the summit, I can imagine what some folks are thinking …
“I’m so far behind on the Ditch Summit.”
It’s not true, though! There’s no such thing as behind.
I’m just releasing these videos one at a time, but there’s no pressure to watch all of them — or to watch them on the day they come out.
It’s like going to your local library. When the library has new books, there’s no pressure to read all of them right away. You just show up and read something you think you’ll love.
The summit is open until Jan. 10. No rush. Watch what you can when you can. The summit (and these emails) will be here waiting for you.
♻️ Day 6 recap
In his session, Ed Campos Jr. asked us a crucial question: If AI saves you time, how will you spend it? (Honestly, I’ve been thinking about that question ever since we recorded this session weeks ago.) With previous technological advances that saved us time, many of us just did more work and didn’t find space for things we love — or things that matter. Ed asks: Will you use that time to do MORE … or to do BETTER?
Yesterday’s new Vivi session discussed how students can share their work with the class — in a way they love! It featured Vivi’s free student screen casting tool that you can start using right away with your own devices / technology.

📺 FEATURED SPEAKER 📺
Coaching Educators: PBL, Life Skills, and Influence with Jorge Valenzuela
Jorge Valenzuela has been coaching educators in a variety of capacities for years, so he’s a wealth of knowledge for tech coaches, instructional coaches, and anyone who wants to lead learning with educators.
He has also taught and coached teachers to use project-based learning (PBL) and to infuse life skills into instruction. (So even if you aren’t a coach, there’s a lot to take away from this session.)
Jorge talks about how “transformational leadership” (how can I encourage you to be your best?) is better than “transactional leadership” (what can I get out of you?).
In this session, he provides lots of guidance on coaching through tough conversations and to encourage higher student engagement.

AI Literacy for Students and Teachers with MagicSchool
Artificial intelligence can help us save time and get things accomplished.
But there’s also a lot to learn about AI and how it interacts with us.
Thankfully, for teachers and for students, MagicSchool (magicschool.ai) is a place where we can learn about both.
For teachers, MagicSchool helps us write lesson plans, create learning activities, and even create teacher jokes.
And for students, it can be a place where students interact with an AI chatbot for learning — in a safe and custom way.
But it can also teach us about the nature of AI and how it works … better preparing us to make safe, smart, informed decisions about how to use it.
In this session with MagicSchool’s Andrew Davies and Jeni Long, they share some of their favorite ways to use this tool — and learn about AI.
