📺 Ditch Summit Day 6: AI & wellness + Vivi

New sessions with Ed Campos Jr. and Juliana Finegan from Vivi

It’s Day 6 of the Ditch Summit! (View all previous summit emails here.)

It’s Saturday, and I can probably count on one hand the number of Saturday emails I’ve sent in the 12 years I’ve been sending newsletters. Saturday emails are not the norm here.

But to get all of the new 2024 sessions out before Christmas, it had to be done.

The good news: You don’t have to watch it today! (Or tomorrow. Or even in December.)

No rush. These videos will be here waiting until Jan. 10, when the summit closes. So take your time. (But don’t wait til the last second!) 😂

♻️ Day 5 recap

In his session, Manny Curiel encouraged us to take risks and be brave when trying new technology or strategies in teaching and learning. He shared his story of immigrating to the United States and learning English — and its parallels to the “culture shock” people feel with new things in their classrooms.

Yesterday’s new Book Creator session shared how STEM and creativity can be integrated into any classroom — with lots of example books and templates you can start using in Book Creator right away.

🤔 What to do during the Ditch Summit: View session resources in Wakelet

Each Ditch Summit section has a collection of resources

Have you tried clicking on that light blue button in each Ditch Summit session — “View Wakelet Collection”?

A Wakelet collection is kind of like a Pinterest collection — a board where you can collect links, images, text, videos, just about anything.

In the Ditch Summit, you can always grab the PDF notes for a summary of a session …

… but you can get related links and resources in the Wakelet collection. We collect everything we can think of that might support the session you just watched in that Wakelet collection.

When you’re done watching … don’t forget to click that light blue button!

📲 SOCIAL: Share what you’re learning on social media using the #DitchSummit hashtag on social media — Twitter/X, Instagram (log in to view hashtag), Bluesky, wherever!

How Will You Spend the Time that AI Saves You? with Ed Campos Jr.

One of the big benefits we hear about using AI in our work and lives is the efficiency. The time saved — time for what matters most.

But how will we spend that time?

Other new technologies over time have promised to save us time. But here we are again, today, overworked and overwhelmed using technologies every day that “save us time.”

If we don’t wisely use that time saved, we’ll be back in the same spot.

Ed Campos Jr. has thought about that a lot.

This is an AI session, but it’s not really about AI. It’s about being a human — using what makes us best as humans — and not squandering it.

Loud and Proud: Encouraging Students to Share Their Work with Confidence with Vivi

When students get done with classwork — important, meaningful classwork — sometimes they don’t want to share it.

They might be shy. Or getting up in front of class might embarrass them.

What if students WANTED to share their work with the class?

This is the effect that Juliana Finegan has seen in classrooms with Vivi for Teachers, a FREE screensharing tool you can start using right away.

  • Students join with a code you give them.

  • You see them appear in your Vivi for Teachers dashboard.

  • Click on the student to start screen sharing.

  • Your student’s screen is displayed on the big screen in front of class.

Vivi for Teachers is that easy. (Did I mention it’s free??? Like, completely completely free???)

It’s created by Vivi, a company that helps schools network their interactive displays and digital signage …

… but Vivi for Teachers is free and doesn’t require any special hardware.

In this spotlight sponsor session, Juliana shows you how Vivi works — and how it can empower student voice.
