📺 Ditch Summit Day 5: Classroom strategies + Wakelet
New sessions with Dr. Janell Blunt and Misbah Gedal from Wakelet

l;
It’s Day 5 of the Ditch Summit! (View all previous summit emails here.)
By the way … if it seems like you’ve been receiving lots of email from me recently, you’re right!
I’m emailing you as we release new Ditch Summit presentations … but the volume of emails will slow down! The final presentation will be available on Wednesday Dec. 24.
We’ll take a break over the weekend and release a new presentation again on Monday.
If you’re thinking “he’s sending me too many emails!” … just sit tight. It’ll slow down soon, I promise!
♻️ Day 4 recap
In his session about building great school culture, Principal Amen Rahh shared how he created the kind of school HE would have wanted to attend — with practical steps you can take in your own school.
In yesterday’s new Padlet session, Padlet’s Zareen Levien shared how you can create fun, multimedia digital activities (that are collaborative!) with your students.

🔎 SPOTLIGHT SPONSOR 🔎
Collaborative, Creative, Curated Learning with Wakelet
Wakelet lets your students collect, share, and work together in a digital space with SO many multimedia options.
They start a new Wakelet collection and start adding text, images, Google Drive and OneDrive files … there’s even a built-in video recorder!
Plus, if students do work in a different app — like Canva, EdPuzzle, Book Creator, even Spotify — students can seamlessly pull those creations into a Wakelet collection. As Misbah says, “Wakelet works with everything.”
And as a teacher? I use Wakelet to save and collect anything I find online — links, videos, PDF files, anything — into Wakelet collections. Have you ever emailed yourself links and can’t keep everything in one place? Wakelet is my one place to keep and organize all my online stuff.
In this Spotlight Sponsor Session, Wakelet’s Misbah Gedal shares more than a DOZEN classroom examples of how Wakelet gets students creating and sharing digitally. (FYI: You can access and browse all of them here.)
🎁 BONUS: You can get 20% off a full Wakelet Pro account to unlock everything! Just use the code DITCH20 at checkout.
📺 FEATURED SPEAKER 📺
Cognitive Science and Memory Strategies for the Classroom with Dr. Janell Blunt
Dr. Janell Blunt is a cognitive scientist — but she’s also a classroom teacher.
That means she knows what makes learning stick (and how the brain prefers to learn) … and she also has strategies to make it work in the classroom.
In this session, she shares some of the basics you need to know to help students remember and learn — based on what research says. (And some of that research was conducted by her!)
She also shares practical tips — and we talk about mini white boards! They’re one of my own favorite classroom teaching tools (and hers, too). We talk about how to get students practicing in a way that helps them remember for the long-term.
Her ideas and research are published in the book, Smart Teaching, Stronger Learning.
