Day 4: Incredible student projects / Figma

Yesterday was all about artificial intelligence (AI) and accessibility. And apparently, it was a hit!

“AI is my new teaching assistant” … right?!?!

By the way, if you love the shirt, you can get one, too …

That’s where you can get “AI is my new teaching assistant” on a t-shirt, v-neck, hoodie or tote bag. Plus other great stuff!

Day 3 #ditchsummit The session with @jmattmiller contributed a lot to my AI toolbox.. I was not aware of Samsung Education - took a look - some good free PD offerings

"Today is our future, but today is their (Ss) past." Just, W.O.W. That is a thought provoking and powerful statement made by @jmattmiller during today's AI #ditchsummit presentation.

đź“ş New session: Memorable, Relevant Project-Based Learning with Yaritza Villalba

Yaritza’s “aha!” moment came with interactive notebooks.

They were working with her students. But she wanted to make them BIGGER. How could her whole class become more interactive.

That’s when the “history amusement park” was born. This project started to change the way Yaritza’s students learned — and made class more relevant and engaging.

Her new mantra: “If you want to get through this class, you’re gonna have to build something.”

Learn about Yartiza’s inspiring project-based class.

Learn how YOU can incorporate projects like these in your own classroom.

Learn about culturally responsive and sustaining education and how you can make your own instruction more culturally responsive.

PS: Not enough time to watch? Check out the blue button that says “View Notes and Resources” — and check out the sketchnotes recap at the bottom of the session page!

đź’ˇ Spotlight sponsor session: Creating a Classroom Community with FigJam with Figma for Education

FigJam is Figma’s online whiteboard tool, and it’s quickly becoming one of my favorite classroom edtech tools.

News: Google is ending its product, Jamboard, very soon.

Better news: You can port your Jamboard files into FigJam quickly, seamlessly, and easily.

Best news: FigJam has LOTS of features that Jamboard never had — including stickers, washii tape, and voting.

You can get a FREE FigJam education account now. Plus, FigJam is free to all K-12 teachers — and it can be deployed across the whole district for free.

In this session, you’ll see what all you (and your students) can do with your free FigJam accounts. (Spoiler alert: There’s a LOT!)

✍️ Meet Jen Giffen, our sketchnotes artist

Have you noticed the gorgeous sketchnotes of all of our featured speaker sections?

They’re created by Jen Giffen, a teacher librarian and former digital literacy curriculum consultant in Ontario, Canada.

She found the Ditch Summit in its first year and started sketchnoting then. Since then, she has honed her sketchnoting skills and shares them on social media and beyond.

You can see ALL of her Ditch Summit sketches — every sketch she’s done for our featured speaker sessions since 2016! — in this Google Drive folder.

Also, she has offered online sketchnoting courses in the past. You can get more info and sign up to get info the next time she offers one here.
