😱 Whoa ... even more classroom AI tools?!?

Plus AI-generated images and free graphic organizers

I’m amazed at how quickly companies are creating digital AI tools that can support teaching and learning in the classroom.

Lots of them are introduced as free tools. We all know that many won’t likely stay free forever. But while they’re free, we can take advantage of what they have to offer.

Today’s email newsletter is packed with tools and ideas you can use to save time and teach in class right away. Enjoy!

PS: My free online conference for educators, the “Ditch Summit,” is live from December 11 to January 5 this year. Good news: You don’t need to do anything to register! You’ll get all of the Ditch Summit goodness here in your email newsletters. Details coming soon on session topics and speakers!

It’s incredible what AI image generators can do.

Type a description of an image. They create that image.

😲🤯🙀

Microsoft Image Creator was the first AI image generator I tried out. I was impressed with the results back then.

But since then, it has upgraded to DALL-E 3 technology, making those images even more refined, creative, and accurate.

Here are some ways you can use it in the classroom:

  • 🎨 Add illustrations to a story

  • 🙋🏿‍♂️ Create student avatars

  • 🧠 Create an illustration for a mnemonic device

  • 🖥 Add images to your presentation slides

  • … plus 6 more in the post linked above.

🤖 More AI tools for efficiency and creativity in the classroom

Yesterday, we shared our updated post: 30 AI tools to use in the classroom.

And yesterday, based on the stats from my email, lots of you clicked on Goblin Tools, a collection of small, simple, single-task tools designed to help neurodivergent people with tasks they find overwhelming or difficult.

Here are a few others worth checking out …

  • QuestionWell — Generate tons of questions to ask students based on a text you provide. Choose the questions you like the best and export them. Send questions to tools like Canvas LMS, Quizizz, Quizlet, Kahoot!, Blooket, Gimkit, or a simple document.

  • Adobe Firefly — This image generator tools is built right into Adobe Express. Create images. Style text into fun graphics. Then add your images into any of their thousands of education-focused templates.

  • Quizizz AI — Use AI to create a quiz/activity from a document, PDF file, link from the web, or even text that you paste. Quizizz AI can also help you interpret results of your students’ activities to identify where they struggle.

🐟 Template: Teach students writing with a fish

A student in Laura Steinbrink’s freshman English class changed how she teaches writing recently.

You need to hook readers into your writing at the beginning, she told them.

A student piped up …

“Well, you have a hook, what about a fish? A hook needs a fish.”

Boom. Inspiration ensues.

Laura (@SteinbrinkLaura) created a graphic organizer to help students write essays. The focus: FISHING. 🎣

🎧 DLP 036: Give Students Choice with Digital Explore Boards

Students have lots of content to master. But not all of it is connected to their interests or curiosities.

Thankfully, we have ways to infuse student choice into what students are learning.

Choice boards give students additional resources connected to what they're learning that are tailored to what students are into.

In this episode of the Digital Learning Podcast, Matt and Holly tell you all about explore boards and how you can make them for your students.

😄 Smile of the day

I think the month before spring break has even more …
