📺 Ditch Summit: Two of my own sessions!
Five days left in the summit!
We’re starting to run out of days!
After being open for more than three weeks now, the summit is in its final week.
It’s at this point that I start to get this question: “Can you just extend it for a few more days? A week? Another month?!!?”
Here’s my answer …
The Ditch Summit is an event much like a conference or a party. It has a start time and an end time. And while it’s going on, we’re all there. We’re focused. We’re participating together.
I have created the Ditch Summit to be an event that people look forward to every year. So let’s make the most of it while it’s here!
Check out our 8 new featured speakers this year if you haven’t. And our spotlight sponsor sessions will introduce you to new tools and features you can start using in class right away.
And in today’s email (below), I’m featuring a couple of my own Ditch Summit sessions.
They’re all available on our Ditch Summit video library page.
Four more days after today (Monday)!

Creativity and STEM in ANY Classroom with Book Creator
Book Creator is more than a way to publish text books online.
It’s a multimedia powerhouse where students can mash up images, text, video, and content from other sites to show what they’ve learned.
In fact, it’s a great way to infuse STEM into any subject area — and in this Ditch Summit session, Katie Fielding shows you how.
She has created several Book Creator books you can copy and use right away (get them here), including:
5E Scientific Notebook
Engineering Notebook
Design Thinking Notebook
Data Science Notebook
Nature Journal
Book Creator is for any content area or grade level, with page templates and tons of visual, interactive ways for students to display learning.
🎁 BONUS: You can get 3 months of premium Book Creator for FREE! (Their free version — one library with up to 40 books / unlimited students is great, too.)
Use code DitchSummit at checkout before Jan. 12, 2025. (No credit card necessary.)
OK, enough talk … let’s see this session!

AI in the Classroom: Today, Tomorrow and Beyond with Matt Miller
We hear lots of talk these days about the impact of AI on the classroom. It’s efficient. It’s engaging. It can create new learning experiences.
I wrote all about this in my book, AI for Educators, a practical primer to get educators up to speed about AI.
At the end of the book, I started asking a question I don’t hear as much about:
What about tomorrow?
How can we prepare students for a future where AI is everywhere, where AI skills are crucial?
In this session, I look at AI in the classroom today — some tips and suggestions for making the most of it.
But I also look at the future. How can we prepare students for the future TODAY? And what might school look like in the future?

Create a Memorable Class with Techy, Pirate Teaching with Matt Miller
It seems harder than ever to capture — and keep! — students’ attention.
With cell phone notifications, social media and constant distractions everywhere, attention is scarce.
How can we capture our students’ attention — and make learning fun in the process?
In my book Tech Like a Pirate, I share tons of ways to make learning feel like the things that students love — social media, videos, games, and all of their favorite interests outside of school.
In this Ditch Summit session, I sketch on my whiteboard as a fun intro — and then share my 8 ways to Tech Like a Pirate.
You’ll walk away with tons of practical ideas to make learning memorable!
