📺 Ditch Summit: Blended Learning + Listening

Only 9 days left in the Ditch Summit!

Welcome to 2025!

(I’m writing this email in 2024, knowing that I’d struggle to get it sent out bright and early on New Year’s Day.)

Ditch Summit 2024 is 17 days old. That means we have 9 days to go!

On Jan. 10, the summit becomes unavailable — videos, certificates, notes, everything — until December 2025.

Below are two of my favorite sessions from summits past that you might want to check out.

Or, jump right into our 2025 featured speaker sessions on these topics: curiosity, AI literacy, student voice, cautious AI steps, perseverance, AI / wellness, coaching educators, and student AI perspectives.

🔎 SPOTLIGHT SPONSOR 🔎

Reflection, Critical Thinking, and AI with MirrorTalk

MirrorTalk (mirrortalk.ai) encourages students to talk about what they’re working on — what they’re learning, what they’re writing, what they’re creating.

Then, it asks them questions to get them reflecting on their learning.

Finally, it summarizes all of it and provides the student and teacher with a report analyzing their responses for further growth.

It really helps teachers bring a powerful and underutilized practice — reflection — into the classroom with little to no prep work ahead of time.

In this session, Brian Lamb of Swivl talks about how MirrorTalk works and how it supports student learning.

🎁 BONUS: Use MirrorTalk to reflect on your Ditch Summit sessions! Just click the “Reflect with MirrorTalk” button in any session …

… and you can win prizes! They’re giving away free posters to educators who click that purple “Reflect with MirrorTalk” button and try it out.

Strategies to Start Meaningful Blended Learning in Class with Dr. Catlin Tucker

If you’ve ever struggled with technology integration in learning, you’re not alone.

The answer isn’t to just add more technology — or to use it more often.

The balance you’re seeking might be “blended learning” — a combination of technology and non-tech learning.

So … what would that look like in a classroom? In this session, Dr. Catlin Tucker shares examples right out of her own classroom.

One of her most powerful practices is station rotation. In this session, Catlin shares the strategies she uses and her best tips.

📚 NEWS: She has a new book coming out!

It’s called Elevating Educational Design with AI (co-authored with Dr. Katie Novak). If you pre-order it before January 14, you’ll get two bonus chapters before the book is even available!

Listening, a Teacher’s Superpower with Cornelius Minor

There are all sorts of educational practices, strategies — and even fads — out there today.

But Cornelius Minor identifies one as a teacher’s superpower. It’s one of our most basic, and it’s as old as time.

Listening.

It’s a way to connect with our students. But it’s also a powerful way to improve our practice — and provide the kind of learning experience our students need.

Sometimes, we perceive student communication as defiant or confrontational. But they’re trying to communicate. It just might not be in the way we expect.

“We cannot always expect kids to communicate in the language we’re used to hearing,” Cornelius says.

This important session will have you re-evaluating how you communicate with students — and how you can better connect with them.
