Ditch Summit: Teacher wellness series with CUE

We’ve made it to the final week of the Ditch Summit! I’ve been talking about Jan. 5, the last day, like it’s been way off in the distance.

It’s not way off anymore. It’s getting close!

🗓 5 days remaining in the Ditch Summit

Someone asked me about extending the Ditch Summit through the weekend.

I get asked for Ditch Summit extensions a lot. Usually I say “no.”

But for this one, it just makes sense. It gives you an extra weekend to watch — especially for those of us going back to school this week.

Let’s do it! (And let’s change that countdown below …)

🗓 7 days remaining in the Ditch Summit

So now, let’s go make the most of the last week of the Ditch Summit!

Inside the Ditch Summit today:

  • 🚨 NEWS: I’m going back in the classroom!

  • 📺 WATCH: The teacher wellness series with CUE

📺 WATCH: Make interactive digital activities with BookWidgets

Imagine being able to choose from 36 question types that you could add to a digital lesson.

You pick and choose from questions like …

  • Flashcards

  • Video quiz

  • Whiteboards

  • Before and after picture

  • Planners and checklists

It has integrations with Google Classroom, Canvas, Schoology, Microsoft Teams and others. So you just add it to your learning management system when you’re done.

This is what you get from BookWidgets! In this session, Kate Baker from BookWidgets shares lots of example activities that you can emulate in your classroom.

PS: Get BookWidgets FREE for the rest of the school year! This sign-up link gets you 6 free mont

hs of unlimited use of BookWidgets.

📺 WATCH: The power of student reflection with Swivl (and Mirror)

What if there was a practice you could use that could practically guarantee learning gains for your students?

Even better … what if it could do that in just a few minutes every day?

We’re talking about reflection — thinking back over our learning.

In this session, Swivl’s Sara Candela shares lots of strategies and tips for doing great classroom reflection. (PS: The 4 F’s of Good Reflection are gold!)

She also shares a new tool that Swivl is creating to easily build reflective processes into classrooms.

🚨 NEWS: I’m going back in the classroom!

After eight years of doing professional development (writing and speaking) full-time, I’m going back in the classroom to teach high school Spanish.

If you subscribed to Ditch That Textbook before the summit started, you may already know this!

The other day, I spent the better part of a morning arranging my room — hanging things on the walls and moving desks around.

Teacher day is Wednesday. First day with students is Thursday.

I’m really excited! (And a little nervous, too.)

After the summit is over, I’ll be sharing from my classroom in this Ditch That Textbook email newsletter. I’ll share lessons learned, things I’m trying, and the experience of teaching again.

Wish me luck!

📺 WATCH: The teacher wellness series with CUE

It’s so common for teachers to be asked to do more and more.

It’s rare to see things taken off our plates.

Add pandemic remote teaching to the mix and the increasing complexity of the classroom and the school? It makes life tough.

In 2019, we teamed up with CUE, a teacher edtech organization centered in the West Coast, to offer a summit with sessions focused on teacher wellness.

We’ve also discussed teacher wellness in other summits throughout the years with a variety of speakers.

You can watch those sessions any time the Ditch Summit is open.

Some of my favorites include:

  • Teacher Wellness: From Disengaged to Fulfilled with Mandy Froehlich

  • Self Care for Stressed Teachers with Dan Tricarico

  • The Science of Happiness with Kim Strobel

  • Go from Burned Out Teacher to Burned In Teacher with Amber Harper
